: Pol Belardi's Force
How can a modern jazz quartet still conquer the listeners' ear in 2016?
The musicians from Pol Belardi's Force have their very own distinct approach. The four young up-and-coming performers are not afraid of taking advantage of their large musical background, drawing as much from classical and jazz education as from their distinctly open minds towards pop, rock, hip-hop and electronic music.
The result is a fresh blend of modern improvised music, subtly expressed through Pol Belardi's original compositions, driven by strong grooves, exquisite harmonies, lyrical melodies, clever use of space, tension and release, diverse moods and a big amount of interaction and fun.
The Luxembourg-based band has released a first album in this lineup, entitled Delusions of Grandeur, on Italian label EMME Produzioni Musicali in 2014 (still under the moniker of "4S").
On 16th March 2016, Force played a special concert extended with Orchestre Estro Armonico, a 16-piece string ensemble, performing an evening full of original music in a subtle orchestral setting.
Currently playing an all-new repertoire, the band entered the studio in October 2016, focusing on the creation of their second album to be released on March 31st, 2017 on Double Moon/Challenge Records (NL). Extended with special guests Riaz Khabirpour on guitar and the versatile strings of the Kaiser Quartett, this upcoming concept album will feature Pol Belardi's musical take on the creation and evolution of an imaginary planet.

The process of creation, evolution, continuity and decay of a heavenly body is amongst the most fascinating of things. Yet, at the same time, human imagination often reaches its limits dealing with this inconceivable topic.
Without prior scientific research, lead by the sole craving for mystery and a somewhat childish naïveté and enthusiasm, Pol Belardi wrote the new repertoire of his band "Force" following the guidelines of this cosmic terminology.
Creation/Evolution musically depicts the aforementioned mecanism, starting out with a mystical spirit pondering on the idea of a planet, followed by its genesis, geomorphology, the evolution of living organisms, plants and creatures. The sonic picture reveals itself very ambient and spherical, explosive at times, yet always organic, transparent and spacious, and gains its efficiency from the energetic performance of the young, open-minded instrumentalists.
The esthetic of "Force" is not only a result of the musical knowledge and background of the individuals, but gets furthermore nourished by a profound personal link between the musicians.
The choice of Kaiser Quartett as string section and Riaz Khabirpour on guitar are both special features for this album to broaden the sound spectrum and explore even more atmospheres, adding that little extra to the already rich textures of the band.
Creation/Evolution will be released on March 31st, 2017 on the Dutch label Double Moon/Challenge Records.
