Dynamic and innovative, Duo KIRTIL, comprising twin sisters Arzu and Gamze KIRTIL, has become one of the most impressive piano duets of recent years. They have established themselves on the International music stage, attracting plaudits and wide praise for their exciting and sophisticated performances, where they enthuse audiences with their scintillating interpretations of the piano repertoire.

Concertists Arzu and Gamze were born in Istanbul, Turkey. Twin sisters commenced their studies at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory with celebrated pedagogue Prof. Tulga Cetiz. After receiving their Masters Degrees and whilst studying for Doctorate Degrees in Turkey, they came to France on a French Government scholarship firstly to the Perpignan Regional Conservatoire, then to study with Germaine Mounier, the most acclaimed teacher of her time, at the École Normale de Music in Paris/Alfred Cortot. This chapter concluded with Gold medals in both piano and chamber music and subsequently in 2003, Diplôme Supérieure de Concertiste.
Duo KIRTIL was formed in 1998 whilst the sisters were in Paris. The duo won first prize at the Medoc-Aquitaine Piano Competition, in Bordeaux, France and were rewarded again at the 10th International Young Pianists Competition, in Rome, Italy.
The duo holds and has performed an extensive repertoire for two pianos and four-hands, and have performed with numerous orchestras, including Hacettepe Symphony Orchestra, Bursa Symphonic Orchestra, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Britannica and L’Orchestre du Conservatoire National de Musique, Perpignan. They have given notable performances at venues such as St John’s Smith Square, London; Smolny Cathedral, St. Petersburg; Aya Irini, Istanbul; Salle Cortot, Paris and Philharmonie de Luxembourg.
Arzu resides in Luxembourg, and Gamze in Ankara. They continue to pursue their careers as soloists and independently collaborate with several chamber music ensembles, in addition to their duo work and live radio and television performances. In parallel, both Arzu and Gamze maintain an active role in tutoring and inspiring the new generation of musicians.
Keen to support new music and up-and-coming composers, the sisters have been the muses for pieces specifically written for and dedicated to the duo. Always creative, they have been the catalyst for many projects for both festivals and one-off events. The sisters were the creative impetus and are the project owners of “2+2: A Cross-Cultural Marriage” which was created for Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. Alongside 2 other renowned pianists, Francesco Tristano and Jean Muller, Arzu and Gamze presented the world premiere of “Teamwork 1” for 4 pianos, from the acclaimed composer W.Gangkofner; a work which the composer dedicated to Gamze and Arzu KIRTIL.
